How to float through your wedding day

(Aka your wedding day survival guide)

Your big day is looming near and you are super busy with all of the last minute finishing touches and checks.

My ‘just in case’ kit
In my role as a celebrant, I always bring a ‘just in case’ kit (aka an emergency kit). It is infrequently needed but it is a calming ‘security blanket’. The kit means that I have many small items that the bride or groom (or their guests) might need.

What else do you need?
Possibilities abound but here’s a few ideas for kits that might be worth having on hand on your wedding day.

The ‘freshen up’ kit
For a fresh all day/ all night look, a ‘freshen up’ kit is essential for you and your bridal party.

Some ideas to start you off:

  • Fresh as a daisy makeup: lipstick, blush, bronzer, cotton buds, tissues, nail polish, mirror, lash glue, lip balm, wipes …

  • Perfect hair: comb, brush, hairspray, bobby pins, hair ties, frizz gel ...

  • Your gorgeous outfit: sewing kit (threads (colours to match chosen scheme, pins, buttons, pins, safety pins, pearl pins,), wipes, lint remover, Hollywood tape, earring backs, spare wedding rings (fake), flat shoes (for dancing late into the night), shoe polish (especially for guys) …

  • Kissable mouths: toothbrush and paste, floss, mints, toothpicks, mouth wash ...

  • Ball of energy: jellybeans, dark chocolate, snack bars, nuts, muesli bars, water …

  • Medical supplies: band aids, Panadol, antihistamines, masks, sanitiser, eye drops, tampons, antacid, anti-inflammatories, any medications (if appropriate) …

  • Weather based kits: water, sunscreen, umbrellas, wipes, towels, spare shoes, hair dryer …

  • Organisational details: planner of times/ tasks/ responsibilities, maps, list of key people and mobiles (including emergency numbers), batteries, pens, notebook, sticky notes …

  • Your own special touches: wedding rings, wedding wishes box, rose petals, framed photographs, wine boxes, ribbons, love letters, wedding favours, signs, photographs, for children (toys, colouring/ activity kits, small chairs), details when pets are included (water, food, bags, leads, cages), music, speakers, and so on.

Sounds like a lot of packing … for sure … but how great would it be if the packing was done and then not needed. Murphy’s Law often kicks in and if we can manage any potential risks (or even minor frustrations), how fabulous is that?

(After all that packing and super organising, don’t forget the bottles of bubbly and special flutes … and simply float through your day … love and bubbles!!)
